Phonetic Alignment and Similarity
The computation of the optimal phonetic alignment and the phonetic similarity between words is an important step in many applications in computational phonology, including dialectometry. After discussing several related algorithms, I present a novel approach to the problem that employs a scoring scheme for computing phonetic similarity between phonetic segments on the basis of multivalued artic...
متن کاملAutomatic alignment of phonetic segments
Speech data transcribed at the phoneme level is important for basic speech technology applications. This paper describes some experiments with an automatic method for aligning a given sequence of phonemes with the corresponding spoken utterance. It is shown that methods borrowed from the field of automatic speech recognition can successfully be adapted to this problem. Results are reported for ...
متن کاملMultiple String Alignment
Every DNA molecule can be described, avoiding its tridimensional structure, as a string (genome) of elements from a set of cardinality only four, whose elements (basis) can be listed as A, C, G, T. Sequences of DNA are repeated many times through the genome without yet understood biological function. DNA is in every living cells and whenever a cell duplicates itself every new offspring get a co...
متن کاملAutomatic Phonetic Alignment and Its Confidence Measures
In this paper we propose the use of an HMM-based phonetic aligner together with a speech-synthesis-based one to improve the accuracy of the global alignment system. We also present a phone durationindependent measure to evaluate the accuracy of the automatic annotation tools. In the second part of the paper we propose and evaluate some new confidence measures for phonetic annotation.
متن کاملSCA: Phonetic Alignment Based on Sound Classes
In this paper I present the most recent version of the SCA method for pairwise and multiple alignment analyses. In contrast to previously proposed alignment methods, SCA is based on a novel framework of sequence alignment which combines new approaches to sequence modeling in historical linguistics with recent developments in computational biology. In contrast to earlier versions of SCA [1, 2] t...
